NY Times: North Korea Trying for Unexpected in World Cup Again

Kim Jong-il, the North Korean leader, would probably not allow any matches to be shown live anyway, considering that the team could be humiliated or someone could hold up a sign of protest against the regime, said Brian Myers, a professor of international studies and an expert on North Korean propaganda at Dongseo University in Pusan, South Korea.

If North Korea somehow defeated or tied mighty Brazil, tightly edited snippets of the match — obtained perhaps from China or pirated — would be shown a day or two later, Myers said. Defeats might receive no mention in the state-controlled news media.

“I can’t remember reading about North Korea losing a match,” Myers said in a telephone interview. “Occasionally, they show a couple minutes of soccer matches around the world. They might show one of the enemy — like the U.S. or Japan — losing.”

...

Because so few North Koreans have the money or the permission to leave the country for the World Cup, the nation’s sports committee has recruited about 1,000 Chinese fans as surrogate cheerleaders, including actors and musicians, according to Xinhua, China’s state-run news agency.

Recent Michigan Prosecutions for “Seducing an Unmarried Woman”

Reader Jeff Semenak, who lives in Lansing, reports that the Lansing State Journal courthouse notes occasionally mention that someone has been convicted of “seducing an unmarried woman.” I checked and indeed found over 30 such notes from 2002 to 2008.

The statute, Michigan Penal Code § 750.532, provides,

Any man who shall seduce and debauch any unmarried woman shall be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment in the state prison not more than 5 years or by fine of not more than 2,500 dollars ....

Anti-speed camera activist nabs Bluff City PD’s expiring web domain

Brian McCrary found the perfect venue to gripe about a $90 speeding ticket when he went to the Bluff City Police Department’s website, saw that its domain name was about to expire, and bought it right out from under the city’s nose.

Now that McCrary is the proud owner of the site, http://www.bluffcitypd.com, the Gray, Tenn., computer network designer has been using it to post links about speed cameras – like the one on U.S. Highway 11E that caught him – and how people don’t like them.

Ashton "7 MPG" Kutcher

“But at the end of the day the truth is, is like, we got to think about the world we live in,” says Kutcher. “I mean we have to be conscious. This is like not a right, it’s a privilege to be on this land and using its resources and we have to be smart about it.”

Daily News: Charles Rangel slams President Obama for being like Dick Cheney

When Obama asked Gov. Paterson not to run for re-election last fall, Rangel said the move was "not presidential." The interference without Rangel's consent was considered a slap against the legendary New York lawmaker.

They have since had a "very pleasant exchange" about the incident, according to Rangel, who added, "I have no reason to believe it will ever happen again in my district or my state."

Politico: Rangel on the Wall Street "terrorists"

"If we've got to have a battle, if we've got to have a fight, if we've got to deal with terrorists, whether they're in the Middle East or whether they're in Wall Street, I could not find a better team to be working with than our political and our community team."
